The first rule is to work to the listing photos, not to a generic checklist. Your photos are the promise the guest booked against. Pillows in the same arrangement, towels folded the same way, the same items on the same shelves. A unit that matches its photos feels cared for before the guest has touched anything.
Reset the kitchen completely. Empty and wipe the fridge, check the freezer, run the dishwasher and put everything away, wipe inside the microwave, and make sure the coffee setup is stocked and clean. Guests open every cabinet, and one stray dirty mug undoes an otherwise perfect clean.
Bathrooms need the drain check. Hair in the shower or sink drain is the single most-reported complaint in short-term rental reviews. Clear it, wipe the glass, descale the fixtures, restock paper and soap, and stage fresh towels.
